GameMaker Studio recently announced their upcoming 2023 development roadmap, which includes several new features and updates.
One major feature in development is a new runtime that will compile natively to each platform, eliminating the need to choose between the VM and YYC compiler.
Additionally, modding support is being added to GameMaker via mod.io, and a new code editor and language server are being implemented.
The new code editor will have a redesigned UI, full-screen window hosting, and the ability to create new objects and events from within the editor itself. Syntax highlighting and Intellisense support will be moved to a Language Server, allowing for more language support. GameMaker will now also support markdown within notes and provide side-by-side preview support.
A new prefab library window is being added, enabling drag and drop instancing into rooms or sequences.
Users will also be able to create their own IDE plugins, and AI integration will be added to GameMaker through a partnership with OpenAL.
