Unity Technologies has made an announcement regarding the layoff of 8% of their workforce, marking the third time they have done so in the last year. This news follows their recent declaration of their first profit quarter since going public and the promise that they will achieve profitability in every quarter of 2023.
According to reports, Unity, the company behind the popular game engine, is set to reduce its workforce by 8% or 600 jobs as part of its third round of layoffs within a year.
The Wall Street Journal has also noted that the company plans to decrease the number of its offices worldwide from 58 to fewer than 30 in the coming years. Unity’s website claims that more than 50% of all games are created using their game engine, including popular titles such as Apex Legends and Among Us.
Unity CEO, John Riccitiello, suggests that the cuts are necessary for “higher growth” and middle managers will be affected. While specific details of the layoffs are unknown, approximately 100 positions will reportedly be cut in Israel, which is home to the recently merged IronSource, according to Israeli tech outlet CTech.
